Academics

Bunker Hills Academy presents a traditional academic, college preparatory program. All of our academic goals and objectives are specific in each subject area and in each grade. This type of presentation of curriculum to teachers and parents gives defined standards and high expectations. Each year in each grade, students take the Stanford Achievement Test battery to recognize achievement and growth. From the phonics based reading program to a rigorous language development in grammar and composition, a strong emphasis is on reading and language skills. Mathematics is strong both in computational as well as analytical achievement. Science is also taught on a factual set of premises and critical thinking application. Foreign languages and computer skills development begin in early elementary and continue throughout the grades. Art, music and the performing arts are also a part of the student's complete curriculum. Our goal at Bunker Hills Academy is to work with the parents to educate each student toward achieving their highest potential in academics, Christian character growth, emotional maturity, physical development and expression of God given talents. With this goal reached, students will succeed in life, and impact the world around them with Christian service.

Elementary ~~ Kindergarten 4 - 6th Grade

At Bunker Hills Academy our Elementary students receive an excellent academic education in a positive, loving and nurturing Christian environment. Our class sizes are small with a very low ratio of teacher to students. All classes have state certified teachers with professional teacher assistants. This combination produces academically strong students who possess confidence and leadership abilities.

The academic year is divided into four academic quarters with report cards to the parents at the end of each marking period. Bunker Hills Academy uses the A Beka Curriculum which includes Bible, language arts, phonics and reading development, spelling, math, computers, history and science. Specialists in music, art and foreign language add to the students development.

Music and drama programs twice a year encourage the students to participate in choral groups, duets, musical instruments, bell choirs and drama. These build confidence and bring out the student's performing arts abilities.

Bunker Hills Academy places a strong emphasis on Physical Education and sports for both boys and girls. Both outside recess on the playground and ball fields; as well as indoor basketball, soccer and other games are enjoyed by all of the students.

Junior High ~~ Grades 7 and 8

At Bunker Hills Academy as in most schools, the Junior High years represent the transition between Elementary and High School. We believe it is imperative in these years to assist each student emotionally as well as spiritually, and in learning to develop relationships with their peers and adults.

Academics in these years are the bridge between the continuation of elementary academics and their high school years where they may choose many of the courses they will need to pursue their chosen field. They will learn organizational skills and independence which will prepare them for the demands of high school and college.

Students will learn to think "outside the box" during many field trips to challenging educational destinations such as the science museum and State Capitol. BHA students started a school newspaper named "The Minuteman" which is a monthly printing of news stories, editorials, and an artistically drawn cartoon section. Bunker Hills Academy offers competition in A.C.S. I. speech meet, spelling bee, and math Olympics. The students work towards recognition and awards for A & B Honor Roll each quarter, and the President's Academic Excellence Awards which many BHA students have received at the end of each year.

Bunker Hills Academy is committed to encourage your Junior High student to strive for excellence in every area of their education. The administration and faculty are confident that BHA Junior High students are well equipped to face the challenges of their high school years.
